The central govt can’t appoint Chief Election Commissioner single-handedly

The process to appoint the Chief Election Commissioner is changed from now on. A petition has been filed to form a collegium to appoint a chief election commissioner and election commissioners. Five members constitutional bench of the Supreme Court gave a verdict on the petition. The constitutional bench was headed by Justice KM Joseph, which gave a unanimous decision. The constitutional bench said that the country’s chief election commissioner cannot be appointed by the central government single-handedly. The bench said that the election commission must be independent, direct appointment is wrong. So, what is the new procedure to make appointments for the chief election commissioner and election commissioners?
